In steel production, billets frequently fall off at the end of the cooling bed and are retrieved using magnetic cranes. This is usually caused by the billets being too hot, which drastically reduces the holding force of the electromagnet and can lead to serious damage to the plant and production stoppages.

The sensor technology used is optimized for non-contact temperature measurement on metallic objects with a spectral sensitivity of 3.9 µm and provides high-resolution measurements with an accuracy of <1%. Unsuitable long-wave IR cameras deviate slightly by +/-100°C from the actual component temperature due to varying emissivity. This massively increases the risk of exceeding the Curie temperature at the billet unnoticed, which poses a significant risk to the equipment and employees.The result is continuous insight, helping operators see problems earlier, react faster, and run with a new level of precision and control.

At the hardware core of the system is the high-performance MP Line Scanner, available in 150 and 300 models. With scanning speeds of up to 300 lines per second, a spectral sensitivity of 3.9 µm, and a temperature measurement range from 50–1,100°C, the system is engineered to perform reliably even under extreme production conditions. Additionally, an integrated 180° tilt unit brings the device to new heights, enabling wide and accurate surface coverage across fast moving billets, ensuring detailed thermal and surface inspection within seconds. This powerful combination of high-speed scanning and extended surface coverage makes this hardware unit the strongest alternative on the market.
