How to deal with the inevitable degradation of the refractory lining

Since steel ladles constantly transport hot molten metal, it is only natural that the refractory lining will degrade extremely quickly.

Sooner rather than later the lining will develop cracks, causing the outer shell to be exposed to extreme temperatures. If left alone, the damages can be catastrophic: a breakout not only results in major equipment damage, but it also threatens the lives of your personnel.

The good news: you can identify cracks and other anomalies before they cause a massive breach.

To do this we recommend setting up at least three thermal cameras, such as our ThermoView TV40, surrounding the ladle. The cameras and their specialized software will provide you with all the data you need to constantly monitor the state of the refractory lining. Since the system will respond in real-time, it will alert you of hotspots as soon as they appear, allowing you to schedule maintenance.

Update your monitoring strategy and prevent critical failure

The ThermoView TV40 features:

  • IR-Fusion® technology (thermal and visible sighting) for easy alignment and added detail on blended images
  • Pre-calibrated lens with remote motorized focus and multiple available field interchangeable lens options
  • Discreet I/O alarms to interface to PLC
  • IP67 (NEMA 4) rated with rugged housing allows for installation into harsh environments with air purge and other accessories available

Our experts are happy to help you find the right set up for your equipment
