Leuphana opens new research lab for production technology

Leuphana University is introducing a cutting-edge research lab for sustainable manufacturing funded by the German Research Foundation and the state of Lower Saxony. Thanks to our strategic partnership with Leuphana, this lab will open new avenues for Selmatec to conduct impactful research projects.

Empowering Research through Partnership

Led by Prof. Dr. Noomane Ben Khalifa, the new facility houses an extrusion press, the hybrid machining centre, equipped with the latest 3D printing technology and a versatile research wire drawing machine, positions the lab as a unique hub for research in forming technology and lightweight construction.

The unique adaptability of the extrusion press, swiftly converting for various purposes, marks a significant advancement in industrial technology. This adaptability provides a platform for Selmatec to contribute to the evolution of sustainable manufacturing practices, making a tangible impact on industry standards by addressing current challenges in production through the integration of technology, materials science, and artificial intelligence.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Noomane Ben Khalifa emphasizes the need for a fundamental shift in manufacturing technology and materials development, with a focus on the ecological footprint. One of the ongoing projects involves low-emission recycling of scrap metal, which showcases a commitment to reducing CO2 emissions through innovative approaches.

Our team extends a big thanks to Leuphana University for the opportunity to access the new facilities. We wholeheartedly believe that together we can further improve solutions for modern manufacturing.
