What are the risks of manufacturing glass wool?

Glass is already a complex material to work with due to its consistency when subjected to high temperatures. However, the process to create glass fibers for glass wool has to be properly monitored, not only to ensure the thermal insulation properties of the final product, but also to avoid machine damage.

The process must be controlled at every stage, because temperature fluctuations at different points of the process may cause different anomalies. At the beginning, when glass is still liquid, the viscosity must be maintained stable to avoid lumps that might clog the centrifuges. On later stages, once the glass turned into fibers, it is important to avoid glass knots that could burn the backing paper. Another main aspect of producing glass wool is making sure that the product cures correctly. With correct monitoring, the fibers will adhere properly and the final product will remain sturdy.
